Managing Pain with a TENS UnitJan 06, 2023
Back in 2022, I was diagnosed with a torn rotator cuff from an accident. One of the therapeutic tools that was administered was a TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) unit. It fascinated me that electrical currents can be used for pain management. In fact, I was so intrigued that I went on Amazon and purchased one. Obviously, there is no comparison to the unit I bought as opposed to the flagship unit the physical therapist uses.

What is a TENS unit?
This an electrical device used to relieve pain. It works by sending low-level electrical signals through electrodes placed on your skin. These signals interfere with the body’s transmission of pain signals, providing relief from persistent or acute pain. Let’s look at how a TENS unit works and what benefits it can offer for those suffering from chronic pain.
How Does a TENS Unit Work?
A TENS unit comprises two parts: an electrical generator and electrodes that are placed on the skin. The generator sends electrical impulses to the electrodes, which then send them through your nerves to the brain. This process blocks the sensation of pain and prevents it from reaching your brain so you don’t feel any discomfort. Besides blocking the sensation of pain, it also encourages the body to produce endorphins, which are hormones responsible for helping reduce stress and provide natural pain relief.
Benefits of Using a TENS Unit
Using a TENS unit can help reduce chronic and acute pain in various areas of the body such as joints, muscles, tendons, neck, back, shoulders, etc. It can also be used for conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, migraine headaches, and sports injuries. Using this device is especially beneficial for those who cannot take medications because of allergies or other medical conditions or who do not want to rely on medications because of possible side effects or addiction risk. Besides providing relief from physical pain, using a TENS machine may also help ease stress and anxiety levels while promoting relaxation and improved sleep quality.
Using a TENS machine is a safe and effective way to manage chronic and acute pain without having to rely on medication or surgery. It works by blocking nerve signals that transmit pain information from reaching the brain while encouraging the production of endorphins in order to promote relaxation and natural relief from discomfort. With its wide range of applications ranging from treating sports injuries to reducing anxiety levels, using a TENS machine is an excellent way for those suffering from persistent or intermittent pains to find much needed relief without relying on prescriptions drugs.

By the way, if this interests you, this is the one I purchased. I am not afaliated with this product. I didn't get paid to use it. I only bought it because of the large number of reviews.
